INTERVIEW + Giveaway: MIRROR X by Karri Thompson

Title: MIRROR X
Author: Karri Thompson
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Pub. Date: June 23, 2014

I was born more than a thousand years ago.

Put into a cryogenic tube at age seventeen, forgotten during a holocaust that decimated the world, I've finally been awakened to a more serene and peaceful future.

But things at the hospital are new and strange. And it’s starting to scare me.

Everyone is young. Everyone is banded and tracked. And everyone is keeping secrets.

The cute geneticist Michael Bennett might be the only good thing in this crazy new world where “life is precious” but no one seems free to live it. The problem is, I don’t think he’s being totally honest with me, either.

When I’m told only I can save the human race from extinction, it’s clear my freeze didn’t avoid a dreadful fate. It only delayed the horror…

INTERVIEW

When you were little, what did you want to be when you "grew up"?
When I was little, I wanted to be a doctor. In fact, for Christmas I asked for the “Invisible Man,” and I got one. I’m not sure if they sell them anymore, but it was a 12-inch model of a man, and all of its muscles and organs showed through its clear, hard plastic skin. All of the plastic organs were also removable. The heart even opened in two, so one could see its chambers. I changed my mind about being a physician during my sophomore year in high school when I had to dissect a fetal pig. Yuk! I was immediately over that career choice. Because I loved to read and write, I ended up majoring in English at SDSU, got my teaching credential, and became a high-school English teacher.

You have won one million dollars what is the first thing that you would buy?
Oh, boy. The first thing I’d do was pay off my house, my credit cards, and then I’d buy a white BMW M6. That’s my dream car. I’m also really interested in helping disabled vets, so I’d contribute to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.

Print or Ebook?
I never thought I’d get used to reading e-books, but after I read one on a Nook, I was hooked. But if I read an e-book, and absolutely love it, I’ll also buy it in print, so I can sit it proudly on my book shelf.

What movie are you looking forward to this year?
I’m looking forward to seeing THE GIVER. I taught this book for many years, so I’m extremely familiar with it. I watched the trailer, and I already see some differences from the movie. For example, Jonas is older, and he has a love interest. This isn’t the case in the book. I’m a fan of Jeff Bridges though, and he plays the Giver, so I will definitely see this movie.

Finish the sentence- one book I wish I had written is....
THE HUNGER GAMES trilogy. Why didn’t I think of this? Love this series!
