BLOG TOUR [Review] Undying by Valerie Grosjean

Undying
by Valerie Grosjean
(Undying #1)
Publication date: September 29th 2013
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult, Zombies

Synopsis:
This is a story of love . . . and zombies.

When eighteen-year-old college freshman Christian discovers his dormitory is crawling with the living dead, he knows he has a problem. But once he learns the whole country is overrun by the flesh-eating horde, he must race to protect what matters to him most.

Sixteen-year-old Iris, the girl he loves, is stranded eighty miles away, alone and completely unaware of the gruesome threat surrounding her.

Christian’s plan is to evade the zombies, drive the distance to rescue Iris, and get them both to his family farm—where there are guns, fuel, and everything else they’ll need to survive. His mission seems simple: Get the girl, get to the farm, and stay alive.

Things get complicated when Christian is forced to make an unthinkable choice between Iris and his family. Someone he loves must die, and he must decide.

College freshman, Christian is dying (no pun intended:)) to tell his best friend, Iris, that he’s in love with her during his next visit home. But unfortunately this trip will not be like any other trip home. He wakes up to find out his roommate has been attacked by a girl on their floor and in turn turned into something crazy. He has to get out of his building and to his car without being attacked by these crazy people. And after a call for help from Iris, who is stranded at a gas station in his hometown, he leaves school to rescue her. He assumes that his family and his family farm is safe from these monsters so if he can only get to Iris and to the farm they will be safe.
Even though there is plenty of bloody gruesome zombie action and not much time to take a breath in the nonstop adventure from Christians dorm to the gas station and then to the farm, I am not very sure what type of romance that Valerie was going for. Though Christian is a very sweet and thoughtful guy, which there are lots of girls out there that would love him, Iris was not the seemingly sweet and deserving girlfriend.  Finding her in the house of her teenage crush was kind of disheartening to Christian. But giving her the benefit of the doubt, she didn’t know Christian was about to reveal his undying love (oh… no pun intended again!) for her. Christian leaves with Iris, Mike and his little brother Josh. The way the story plays out from there…well you will just have to read it and see.
I really did enjoy all the characters and I was rooting for Christian and Iris to get together. But it was heart wrenching to see them and their struggle with the loss of their families. Though this was a short read, there was plenty of action to keep you interested until that final cliff hanger ending. I am looking forward the next book to see where Valerie will take us next.
